Add text to a video

Hey,

I'm looking for a freet or cheap video creation software. I don't need an Adobe Premiere (useless since I only have a 32 bit Windows 7).

What I just need is simple effect beewenn videos (like crossfade, dissolve, blend,...) and mainly able to add text on the videos (like they do on tv to show title/singer on songs).

My sources are mainly DV (in Standard definition)

What should be the best option ?

A feature I just added to my mpeg player, displays large font text before and / or after the mpg video. Ie introducing the race participants then the race video followed by the race results. reaction time, top speed etc.

I will catalog my political video. Displaying the question. The candidates answer on video followed by public responses. Random too...

Here is a simple quick demo.

I needed a mix of text and slowed video to show this stuff to people. Text to tell you where to look and a simple version of the program that didn't require any knowledge whatsoever. Otherwise people would be scared away by the technicalities.
