  1. I recently changed my approach with ripping blurays and DVDs from using VidCoder to MeGUI. Everything is great, and I'm quite happy with the video quality of the rips... Problem is, that my "portable" versions won't work on my Windows Phone 7 anymore. Zune can read the files, and when I try to sync them to the phone, it insists on converting them to wmv files with vc1 and wma audio.

I originally suspected that it was a problem with my x264 settings, but after extensive testing, it would seem that x264 is not the problem at all. I've tried going down as low as Main@L1.3 and it still won't sync to my phone. I then decided to take a file which I knew was good, demux it with My mp4box GUI, and re-mux it again. Funny thing is that now it won't sync to the phone (without converting), even though it's the same video stream inside.

I've tried playing with My MP4Box GUI settings to no avail. What can I do to get it to work? VidCoder did all the muxing for me previously, so I never had to play with settings like this. I've also tried using FFMPEG and some other mp4 muxer which I forget the name of.

Here's a MediaInfo of the good file:

  2. If vidcoder produced working files for your windows phone, why change?

Did you specify QT compatibility mode in megui for it's muxer? It's somewhere in the options. That fixes some issues with some Apple products, it might help with your phone

You can also try mp4muxer - it also muxes more compatible with some Apple products (might help even though it's a Win phone)

  3. Switched to MeGUI because I found a guide for super high quality encodes and using bitrate instead of constant quality. I like the results of MeGUI better, really... Vidcoder is awesome at being simple, but it doesn't give me the fine grain control I like. I did try mp4muxer to no avail... but I don't recall trying what you said in megui. I can't find anything about QT compatability though.

it probably won't do much for your case, but : options=> settings => "force video file extension for QT compatibility"

make sure you are using the svn builds (development server) if you use updates, the main branch doesn't get updates as frequently (sometimes a few months behind)

vidcoder is just an alternative GUI for handbrake. MeGUI just a GUI as well. All of them use x264 in the backend. If you use the same settings and preprocessing with the same x264 build, you will get identical results. Even if the options aren't exposed, you can access them through the command line or extra settings box (I know handbrake has it, but I don't recall if vidcoder has it)

you could also check your phone and it's forum to see if there are things like firmware updates (but sometimes they reduce function and compatibilty, or sometimes a certain revision is better)
