Does anyone know of any software which can playback video at 4k resolution via 4 x DVI and also at 5120 x 1600 via 4xDVI stable and synchronised at 24 or 25fps.

I have a powerful PC/GPU combination. I have tried VLC but so far not a great deal of luck.

    What codec?

Youtube has some 4k demos, also Red camera.

    via 4 x DVI
Explain what you mean. Quad 2k x 1k monitors?

Are you trying to upscale normal video to 4k x 2k or source 4k x 2k video?

Codec is open but Currently using x264 endcoded with Adobe Media Encoder

    DVI with 4x2048x1080 4k resolution
    or 4*1280*1600 our 5k combination

I've tried the youtube videos but I'm not happy with the quality/bitrate.

    Still not following.

Are you trying to segment one video stream into four monitor feeds?

Codec is important. Huge RAID arrays may be needed. A typical PC disc can barely handle uncompressed SD (SDI = 270 Mbps). Uncompressed 1080i HD requires 1485 Mbps. Uncompressed 1080p requires 2970 Mbps.

A Windows 7 PC with a desktop described as above using 2x Quadro graphics cards with 4x DVI output (due to the pixel processor we have for the projector).
Definately Compressed footage. Films should be stored on a network (Gigabit)
I'm interested if anyone has experience with 4k Cinema playback or 4k 264 footage. I have searched the 'net but have yet to find a definitive howto in terms of software encoding +/ playback. Is it scaleable to 5x1k?
I found the RedRocket interesting, what I could find out about it, but i'm guessing a new Kepler Nvida card could probably perform the same decoding speeds and also the current high-end quadro cards I guess.
PC is a HP z800 2x Xeon with total 12 cores.

  6. Matrox specializes in "wall of monitors" playback. I'd look there for some hints.

4k Digital Cinema distribution is by the Digital Cinema Package (DCP) which consists of encrypted JPEG2000 MXF video and linear PCM MXF audio files distributed on Linux EXT2/3 partitions.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Cinema_Package

There are several Digital Intermediate formats used for production. Red Epic has a 5k x 2k acquisition format.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_cinema

The main issue is in what format are the source files generated an are you looking for standard or proprietary distribution formats.

Companies that specialize in monitor/projector 4k wall splitters are EMS, Extron,EyeVis and others.

Matrox and NVidia have monitor wall solutions

Serval companies sell 4k projectors including Sony, NEC, Christie, JVC and Barco.

  9. this stuff is uber awesome and geeky! Maybe latest version of Cyberlink PowerDVD or MPC-HC or Mplayer2 (not Mplayer 1) with video hardware acceleration enabled (DXVA or CUDA or CUVID) will work. Maybe any available 64-bit edition is faster. LAV software filters for Windows also has video acceleration for H264 http://1f0.de/downloads/#lavfilters
Mplayer2 is there http://mplayer2.org and for Windows there http://mplayer2.srsfckn.biz
I also found some info on http://www.elecard.com Does this help?
