  1. Hey all I've been having issues with this one disc and ripping it to an ISO. I've got three different programs that all get to about 50% in and fail on reading bad sector errors. I've buffed the crap outta that disc, it plays fine on my computer, so in a moment of desperation I just copied the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS files off the disc to my computer. I used Daemon Tools to create an ISO out of those two folders. I mount the ISO and everything looks great! The video auto plays, all the features are functional, I played them side by side to the original disc and they look the same. I mean only issue is the ISO is 7GB, so if I want to burn it to disc I'll have to use something like DVD shrink.

    A N Y W A Y

Onto my question, why do I need to even bother with third party rippers? Why not just copy the files off the drive, and create and ISO? I don't need them on a disc now, but later if I did I could just use a burner programer later. Am I missing something here?

Yes. If it's a commercial DVD it is encrypted.

sounds like a bad press disc, use imgburn to burn(it's free) dvdshrink does not burn, windows will not copy a protected disc, use dvdfab to rip your disc

So if it's encrypted it won't even let me copy files off the disc? Or when I create the image it wont burn?

Yeah I had been using DVDFab to rip the disc getting read errors. Had not tried IMGBurn or DVDShrink to rip though, may give them a try if this doesn't work.

No, IIRC, it WILL let you copy it, it just will be GARBAGE to you or any player/app.

Rarely do READ ERRORS have anything to do with the encryption. Usually has to do with the Media quality (IOW, it's crap) or wear & tear.

Use AnyDVD to bypass the encryption and while using ISOBuster to do a multipass rip to IBP/IBQ image. This may need to be daisy chained to multiple drives/computers to complete, but the results are usually worth it.

imgburn does not decrypt it is jus a burner dvdshrink may not work either if the disc is a recent release. update to the lastest version of dvdfab, there are some newer dvds that are giving read errors but in fact it is a new form of copy protection.

Not necessarily. A lot of commercial PORN is not encrypted (to be able to squeeze more $$ out of each release).

If the OP was able to just copy the files from the DVD to his harddrive and the copy PLAYED correctly, then the original DVD was NOT encrypted. Maybe the OP can tell us the title of said DVD.

An unencrypted DVD is the exception, not the rule.

Bootleg DVDs aren't encrypted. Chinese ones are often of excellent quality, including all the box art and the annoying FBI warnings. But load them in a PC and you see they aren't encrypted.

As for ripping substandard disc to ISO, try ISOPuzzle.

Yes, that's true. Maybe I should have said, "An unencrypted commercial DVD is the exception, not the rule".
