    I was given an avi file to view. When I play it with vlc, a pop up states that it doesn't have correct codec (GAVC)

    I have used all of the above players and all do not play.

    I have also downloaded klite.. still no luck.

    This file was created with some sort of security footage program (no idea what software was used)

    Any thoughts/ideas?

    I installed it OK.....but now what? Is it a player too? Or do I use vlc again?

    Presumably it's a directshow codec. Try Windows media player.

    with Windows MediaPlayer it says 'codec acquired', but does not show and video....oh well

    Had the same issue playing back a surveillance video from Geovision 8.5

    Used this, works on win7 x64 8.5 (and below, presumably) - Right click>install .inf setup files

    After reading through the thread I found the codec from geovision at: worked with Windows MP.

    Felt a bit safer using this than a file from a codecs site (on the company computer).

    I had the same problem texasdontholdem user. So I followed the recommendation watice user ( It's okay now!
