I was about to update my Home Theater System and I wanted to check what this firmware update included. Pretty included all this gimmicky stuff plus CINAVIA. I refuse to update and advise everybody else to not as well. This is for most Sony devices, but not all.
Any Sony HTS models that begin with BDV-xxxx contain it for sure.
Try StreamFab Downloader and download from Netflix, Amazon, Youtube! Or Try DVDFab and copy Blu-rays! or rip iTunes movies!

Good advice to hear, don't want cinavia on my sony blu-ray player, doing a backup and playing it with my ps3 was really frustrating to get the cinavia warning with the audio muting.
I think,therefore i am a hamster. -
Cinavia was put on ps3 with firmware 3.41

i think it will be mandatory for all new bluray players to have the cinavia protection put in at the factory from now on.

I stopped buying and was against $ONY way back before DVDR's even existed.
When they were selling CD Burners and CDR media yet openly admitted their own equipment, dvd & cd players, home, portable, mobile, would NOT play CDR's, by their own design, screw em!!
And they have only gotten worse and worse over the years, decades, etc.
Even waaaaay back in the day even before cd's their equipment was always over rated and i never really preferred it.
I only own a PS1 & PS2, and that's only because i could hack them & hack their games!!
And i don't mean just back them up, i mean really hack them!!
LOL!!
After all, my avatar here for years and years was this....

Correct but there were some ways around it.
Cinavia was already present on the PS3 before the 4.01 firmware, as johns0 noted, however the 4.01 firmware specifically broke DVDFab's bandaid workaround where users could create a BDMV-REC backup which the PS3 saw as trusted and the Cinavia enforcement wasn't tripped. This only worked on the PS3 as far as I know and Sony has now removed the loophole. BDMV-REC was a garbage solution to begin with and anyone with a brain knew Sony would close it sooner or later. All those BDMV-REC backup discs are now worthless.
