Can an image file be converted to a subtitle and muxed with video and audio to create a new DVD.
Looking to superimpose a black border on a DVD to avoid re-encoding.

    Resolved using MuXMan and DVDSubEdit.

It was a VHS tape recorded to disk (NTSC)
I wanted to black-out 12 pixels around so created an image 696x456, coloured it black (0,0,0)
Fitted to a canvas 720x480, filled in the perimeter with green (0,0,255).
Saved it as 4 bit/16 colour bmp file.

    MuxMan:
Loaded the previously demuxed m2v along with the bmp.
    Loaded the Audio.
Loaded an .sst file which has the particulars of the subtitle and muxed everything.

Used DVDSubEdit to verify colours, transparency, etc.

Changed the black to green to look at the overscan on a CRT and LCD screen.

  5. Interesting. Had no clue one could use a static image like that. Thanks for the particulars.

I got the impulse from this Doom9 thread on creating a menu using a script.
