Could someone over here advise me on the extraction of Digital TV (DVB) Subtitles from UK Freeview (DVB-T) streams?
I'm aware of using ProtectX and have had success with this in the past. I however had to reformat my PC and now cannot get the ProjectX Settings right. I could someone recommend the ideal settings? With my current settings, it demuxes the streams well, however when loading the extracted sub file into subrip (for OCR conversion to srt, the subtitle image isnt clear meaning the OCR doesnt work.
Like i said, i got this working perfectly in the past, so i know it works. I have a feeling i just have an incorrect setting.
One (bonus) things i'd like to know is is there a(n easy) way to keep the colours used in UK DVB subtitles when creating the srt file? Is there an OCR tool that can somehow detect the colour and do the formatting code automatically? (again, this isnt needed, but would be an added bonus.
Also, I now also have a DVB-T2 PC tv card for Freeview HD (UK) signals. Is there a tool i can use to extract the DVB Subtitles from these HD TS files? I know ProjectX doesnt work, so that is out of the question.
Try StreamFab Downloader and download from Netflix, Amazon, Youtube! Or Try DVDFab and copy Blu-rays! or rip iTunes movies!

Tried following this guide?
http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Create_SRT_Subtitles_From_MythTV_Recordings -
That does kind of help. It i'll give the 0x255 things on ProjectX a go. I hope that works coz other than that theres not much config info in there.
Does CCExtractor support non-Teletext subtitles though (ie does it support those used on DVB-T)? I was under the impression it didnt.
I notice the guide also mentions checking Syncing. To be honest, ive never had any problems with syncing when I used ProjectX to demux and extract the subs before (when the config was correct) so I'm hoping the method described in the guide doesnt bring these problems in. -
This is the X.ini file to be found in ProjectX for Australia conditions - basically the same except for the page number for the UK (in Australia it is 801).

See under my sig some suggestions for setting up ProjectX - as far as I know it is the only program that will extract subs (using demux mode)SONY 75" Full array 200Hz LED TV, Yamaha A1070 amp, Zidoo UHD3000, BeyonWiz PVR V2 (Enigma2 clone), Chromecast, Windows 11 Professional, QNAP NAS TS851 -
Once again this is only for Teletext type subtitles, as often used on analogue TV. In the UK subtitles were on Teletext page 888, but as analogue TV gets faded-out this is now disappearing to as the UKs digital TV doesnt use teletext subtitles for subtitles in the DVB-T stream (i know some countries do this).
Subtitles on DVB-T (digital terrestrial TV) in the UK are picutre based IIRC, similar to DVD. I think its called DVB Sub or something like that, -
This is part of ProjectX Presettings subtitles does this help?
A few years ago I was a member of the UK Topfield Forum and who advised using ProjectX for UK Digital TV but clearly there have been changes as I have seen a few H264 files recently. Could you post a MediaInfo file of one of your files so I can add it to my archive collection. Many thanks.Last edited by netmask56; 2nd Mar 2012 at 16:41.
