    Hi all:

Tryng to reduce the size of some mkv movies.

First convertion eith handbrake went fine and I got an mp4 file.

2nd convertion with same settings for another movie gave me an m4v - mpeg-4 file !!!

Besides that the first one I can easily play it using potplayer or MPC, the and I cannot play it !!!

    Any ideas ??

Even if you just rename it to mp4?

Post the details from both the mkv and mp4 using mediainfo, view->text.

And you can use handbrake 0.9.3 if you want to avi conversion, https://www.videohelp.com/tools/HandBrake/old-versions#download

I would try shrink it with something else like xmedia recode, format factory, freemake video converter...or try the latest handbrake beta build from https://build.handbrake.fr/view/Nightlies/ .

I used format factory for converting.

It works, but for a source movie with 8,3 GB I got an avi with 6,27 GB so not good to burn in a DVD with 4.7 GB

How can I configue it to give me not more than the 4.7 GB ??

Lower the bit-rate for the video & audio (and be carefull with the GB when you calculate how much)

And try take a look at this

Use a bitrate calculator like videocalc.

Ok I've got videocalc but I don't know how to do it.

When I select a divx with 4480 MB does it means the file must have a maximum of 6572 Kbit/s ????

Set the movie length also and then use that audio and video bitrate in format factory.
