  1. Hi folks -- long time.

Back with yet another query about my DVp5990. Tried watching a flic tonight that is 1.49 gig in size, and for whatever reason it stops at approximately the 1:05 mark, then the player immediately jumps to the next flic in the queue. I was using a 4 gig Dane-Elec thumb-drive as a storage device for the AVI.

Here's a G-Spot cap for anyone that might want to take a shot at it, and thanks to anyone taking the time with this.

Post a MediaInfo report it has far more detail and information than GSpot in a more readable format. Use Text mode and you can simply select the text copy and paste into your post.

I had a Philips player that had sometimes had problems AVIs that had been joined(as yours appears to be). My solution was to open it in MPEG4 Modifier and then resave it. Hope it works for you

  4. Kiwi, can you tell me what in the g-spot info indicates that it was a joined file? "Multipart Open DML?" Something I'll have to keep my eye out for.

Have you ever successfully played an avi file that was almost 1.5GB in size?
Some players have restrictions on the maximum size they'll play eg. 1 or 2 GB.

Delete the file and copy it again to the usb drive, sometimes the file doesnt get copied properly i found,if that still doesnt work then there's a problem with the file itself. Also try splitting the avi in half and play it that way if nothing else works.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.

I suspect the problem for you player is

    Alignment : Aligned on interleaves
Interleave, duration : 64 ms (1.54 video frames)
Interleave, preload duration : 192 ms

All I can suggest is run it through AviDemux and do as it suggests.
You may have to re-encode the audio to a lower bit rate accommodate the players limitation.
Nearly all my avi's are larger than this file and play ok on my media players and Soniq Blu ray.

The last resort program (it will re-encode the lot) you could try is AVI ReComp using Xvid.

The rest of the parameters all seem ok to me.

One last thing I spotted, the frame rate is neither 23.976, 25 not 29.97.
24 fps may be non-standard. Also, BVOP = 4 is unusual, it's usually 1 or 2 with Xvid.
Other issues may be more generic such as a corrupt frame at the point it skipped,
    etc,etc.

If I were you, I'd reencode the file. Pass through the audio as-is, and just re-do the video.
Set the xvid encoder back to defaults first.

I have owned a couple of these for 5 years. Whenever the file size is over 1GB, I can expect it to not finish playing. I assumed it was a limitation of the device not to play larger files.

Spartacuss - just leave old threads alone if they're more than 6 months old. Wanderlustus hasn't logged in since the middle of June. You're not really helping anyone by adding needlessly to old threads. An inability to play AVI files over 1 GB in size almost always points to a problem with the AVI itself rather than the player. Now files over 2 GB in size are a completely different story with many players known to have problems with such. The previous posts explained very well what the likely problem was.
