Using wireless mic with shotgun mic on Canon HF G10

I have a Canon HF G10 with Canon shotgun mic. I recently bought a Sony ECM-AW3 wireless mic for it as well. Since I am recording outdoor hunting videos, I want to use both the shotgun mic and the wirelss mic. The shotgun mic overrides the wireless mic when both are connected. Is there something that I am missing or is this possible to run both mics together?

The Canon HF G10 doesn't have a shotgun mic. Do you mean the XA10? That model has a built in mic/line mixer allowing two mics to be used.

For the G10, look at the external Beachtek DXA-2T.

I'm not certain but I don't think you can use the hot shoe mic and an external mic at the same time.

Yes* if the hot shoe mic also has a wired output. Most don't.

You should have bought the XA-10 that is the same camcorder with built in 2 mic adapter. You may be able to trade up. Otherwise, add the Beachtek.


* I don't have your camcorder so you should read the manual and test it. Similar camcorders cut the hot shoe mic when an external mic is plugged in.
