  1. I've tried contacting both companies for help because my uploads are transcoded by YT with black bars, but the problem remains unresolved.

    The files are 1280x720P 16:9

Because of a problem I'm having with recent versions Samsung's Intelli-studio software for uploading caused me to use YT's uploading page instead. The resulting videos have black bars whereas I-s ones turned out well.

Older versions of I-s are buggy and have limited editing so I'm thinking of shelling out for a software that I could transcode these .mp4's so that I could use YT's uploader and not see the black bars in the finished product.

  4. YouTube is going to cut the framerate in half, as they don't publish 59.94fps videos, but that doesn't explain them adding black bars to it. Do you have a YouTube link so we can see? Are they squishing the video, or are they covering part of it with the black?

    w/YouTube in Mozilla Firefox

    w/Intelli-studio

The first link was May 2011 and still transcodes uploads like that in Jan 2012

  6. Interesting. It's not even adding the black bars; that's being done by the player. Your video becomes such resolutions as 1280x404 and 1920x608. I suspect it can be repacked into a different container, one that YouTube handles better, but if it's possible someone else will have to instruct you how.

As for your original question, you don't have to pay good money to convert it to a different format as there are plenty of freeware programs that can do the job,. Maybe try XviD4PSP or XMediaRecode to convert your MP4 to an XviD AVI for upload to YouTube. While you're at it, halve the framerate to 29.97fps, if possible.

  7. Thank-you manono for your time and efforts in helping me make sense of this.

I like the repack idea, and I like free, will have a go at the softs you suggest.
