Eh, for the most part AMD is always going to play catchup to Intel. That's just the reality of the situation. To survive AMD is going to have to continue to position itself as a "more bang for less bucks" kind of provider like they generally have and maybe continue their work on the graphics side where Intel is woefully behind. Except for probably a few brief periods AMD is not going to be at the forefront of the technology curve with CPUs.

Intel will avoid taking AMD down. They need a competitor. ARM doesn't count because they only license designs for others to fab. Intel can control AMD with technology cross licenses.

These are EP chips, geared for workstation , server and enterprise markets, not consumer desktops

But video related wise - 3D modelling & animation, motion graphics, video editing, encoding in some cases - can all benefit from more cores

These are different markets - AMD has 16 core chips out right now, to be used in 4p motherboards = 64 physical cores (but performance/watt sucks) , Intel has 10 core chips, to be used in 8p boards = 80 physical/ 160 HT threads available right now.

Wouldn't that be a lot like sticking an electric heater on your desk?
