I uninstalled a thing called Media Player Codec Pack, which I originally installed because WMP didn't play DVD's. Ran into other problems with it, color being offset from the image. So, I uninstalled it but now get no sound on mpeg-2's. .wav, .avi .mp3 play fine. Media Player Classic will play mpeg-2 files, so does the old WMP6 that's bundled. But not WMP10 or 11.

I tried installing this mpeg-2 codec pack from windows - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/downloads/windows-media-player/plug-ins but get an odd result. I uninstalled WMP10 and installed 11 but it tells me the codec isn't compatible with WMP10. I hit clear and it tells me the codec pack is successfully installed. Not sure that it is.

Anyway, any suggestion how to get WMP playing mpeg-2 files again? How would I re-install the default codecs from the windows install disc?

    Thanks
