What's the most "Device Compatible" container? is it, .mp4 or .mkv?

  2. More devices support MP4 than MKV.

All those things effect playback. DXVA is Microsoft's DirectX Video Acceleration libarary. Encoding with DXVA compatible settings will assures that DXVA will play the file properly. All devices have limitations on what containers, codecs, and codec features they support.

DXVA is a MS specification that can use a compatible Windows PC (Or Xbox 360) video card to help with playback processing (Hardware processing) of video. It's not a video format.

I know, so DXVA has to do with some settings right? So I made a video which is DXVA compatible and I want to know if this video is also XBOX and PS3 and other video compatible.

  9. The Xbox 360 can play video encoded to the DXVA standard. I'm pretty sure the PS3 can handle it too. At least as far as h.264 is concerned.

is there a tool that could be used to check "with what devices this video can be played with"?

  11. As far as I know, not specifically. There are tools that can tell you what profile@level is flagged. Though the flag may not reflect the actual video content.
