  1. I am trying to record programming from my Scientific Atlanta explorer 8300hdc cable box to my pc via fire wire. I downloaded the recommended package and installed them. Device manager has no "!" points so it seems to be happy with the drivers. The "Transport Screen Capture" program runs until I hit the record button. I then get the error 800705AA: cannot start capture. This is as far as it lets me go; what can I try next?
    Thanks hoader

Perhaps start by filling out your computer specs here.
Are you sure it runs on your OS?

I checked the link you listed and it works up to the press record button. It lists Scientific-Atlanta AV/C Tuner Device (unknown video #1) in the capture device box.
My installation went differently tha=en what was listed at this link. I downloaded the driver package, expanded it to a temp folder, and pointed the driver wizard to that folder for every driver and not just the "Tuner AV/C Device" or "Tuner AV/C Panel". It doesn't ask for any drivers when the computer reboots and none of the devices were disabled.

I saw something in that same link about XP and flubbing up when the record button was hit.
Did you happen to download one of those codec packs which aren't recommended?
    Sometimes, they conflict with programs.

PS - Your computer specs can go in your profile for future reference.

  5. That link took me to a search list of lots of problems. I am a mechanic often troubleshooting agricultural equipment. I really hate it when the symptoms change. I did nothing to the drivers yet when I hit the record button, a timer starts counting down from 10 minutes and it starts a file with 12-x digits.mpg None of the other boxes have anything in them. I looked in 'device manager' under 'imaging devices' and found the following:
    Scientific-Atlanta AV/C panel device explorer 8300HD
    version 1.0.130.1430
    Scientific-Atlanta AV/C timer device explorer 8300HD
    version 1.0.130.1430
    Unknown IEEE 1394\5068 device
    imaging device
    Matsushita Electronics Industral
device status no drivers are installed on this device
    Unknown IEEE 1394\989 device
    imaging device
    Matsushita Electronics Industral
device status no drivers are installed on this device

I can find these .mpg files and the longer I recorded, the larger they are. I use LVC media player for most viewing but it crashes when I try to open these .mpg files. What happened here? What driver is recommended with my configuration?
