I have always used the main movie option and made sure the quality was 100% so there would be no transcoding/encoding. I copied the movie Kung Fu Panda 2 today and reviewed the specs using mediainfo.

    I saw this...
    encoded by TMPGEnc (ver. 2.524.63.181)

I have never seen this before, has something changed here lately that I am not aware of? I don't know if it was actually compressed, but the writing library TMPGEnc caught my eye.

Whats the source? DVD or BR/HDDVD? Load the source files in mediainfo and compare.

DVD, and I didn't think about comparing bit for bit. Let me check.

It's not comparing bit for bit. Just load a vob in mediainfo and see what it says about the encoder or something...

Opening the VOB from the DVD itself doesn't work with mediainfo, unless I'm doing something wrong.

I would be shocked if a major studio is actually using TMPGenc to encode for DVD, but I'm curious to see how this turns out.

Do you have AnyDVD or DVDFab Passkey? You might run one of these to disable the copy-protection before you can use mediainfo on the files on your DVD.

Ok, the DVD source does not have a writing library, definitely not encoded with TMPGenc. So the newer versions of DVDFab have a major bug and are encoding when they are not suppose to.

Did you experience any difference in time? Copying Kung Fu Panda 2 compared to a DVD you've copied prior to this one...

It usually takes me any where from 7 to 10 minutes for copying the main movie with only english audio. I always use mediainfo after it's complete to check everything. Never have I ever seen this before It must be a bug or something in the newer versions. I copied it twice, same results.

Tried to play both DVDs (original and result of your copy process) on your PC? If so, do you see any differences in quality? Btw, using AnyDVD/DVDFab Passkey you might check the encoding bitrates and other stats for differences? Just to be a little surer things haven't been reencoded.

I honestly don't think it actually encoded the movie. The file size is what it should be. The video bit rates are the same as the source from what I can see. It seems more like a writing bug in the info. Just an error with the latest release.

Might be actually. I have DVDFab myself, installed the latest v8.1.3.8, but haven't tried it yet. I think I'll test it later, or tomorrow morning. Strange behavior anyhow

A thread full of action and suspense...

Here's what I found. I took the "Vier Fäuste für ein Halleluja" DVD release. Mediainfo gave me this:

Don't mind the .vob filename. AnyDVD shows the before state, DVDFab the after state. Call me Ray Charles...but I don't see anything concerning TMPGEnc.

I don't know, maybe it's after the process is done.

After the process is done? I figure you fire up DVDFab, select DVD Copy - Main Movie Only, set output size to DVD9 (Q=100%) and copy the hunk. That's what I did too. But as you see there's nothing about TMPGEnc in my case. What else do you think could DVDFab do when copying has finished?

I did the same thing by choosing Quality 100% and you can see what happened to my file. It was "encoded" using TMPGEnc. I haven't tried another movie to see if it does the same thing.

  20. DVDFab doesn't use TMPGEnc for DVD encoding, we use our own transcoder to compress DVD-9 to DVD-5. If there is no need for compression, DVDFab will just copy the VOB stream.

I got curious and ran a DVD through DVDFab 8.1.3.8 to check with MediaInfo and it came up as:

"Writing library : TMPGEnc XPress 4.7.4.299"

  25. I found where the problem is: we used TMPGEnc to encode CGP VOB files.

CGP VOB files are just still images, and only used to replace the VOB cells which is not needed in output.

Will there be an update to fix the issue? Or is it not really worth updating over.

Sorry guys, but it's quite routine for commercial software to be built around free / open source software. Some end users may find that shocking, and developers of the commercial programs don't like to talk about it, but it happens all the time.

In the IT community this is not viewed with alarm. Why reinvent the wheel? To programmers plagiarism is a sign of intelligence.

So personally, I don't give a damn if they used open source. It won't come up with me because I only use DVDFab HD decrypter. The encoding for converting the VOB files stinks. I use Handbrake in 2 pass mode for that.

I agree, either Handbrake, Staxrip, or MeGUI. All I wanted was a main movie copy with absolutely no encoding/compressing! Christmas is here, maybe I will get my wish lol
