I wanted to use Windows DVD Maker straight away to make a DVD from this .mkv file because I like it's menu layouts.
However Windows DVD Maker won't play with .mkv's, it will accept the following....
asf, .avi, .dvr-ms, .m1v, .mp2, .mp2v, .mpe, .mpeg, .mpg, .mpv2, .wm, and .wmv.

I want to use Any Video Converter Professional to do the conversion.

Thing is, I want to choose the file format that retains the best quality/size before I convert to DVD.

Amongst the output formats Video Converter Professional offers are, mpeg1, mpeg2, wmv1, wmv2, xvid, mpeg4...

Also I want to make sure the aspect ration is 16:9, but under 'Video Options' in Video Converter Professional it only offers drop-down boxes for Video Codec, Video Bitrate and Video Framerate.

    Which settings should I use?

Do you want a "standard" dvd, compatible with all players? If so, mpeg-2 is your choice.
