    Same thing. You have to program the DirectTV receiver to turn on and switch to the right channel when it's time. Or for a single channel you can just leave the receiver on, tuned to the right channel. This is why everyone gives up on using an external recorder and just pays the cable/sat company for their DVR.

    That's what I'm trying to do. I want it to record the Cards/Brewers game on FOX.

    The leave the sat box on and tuned to the right channel. Then set the recorder to record at the right time. If it has multiple inputs make sure it is set to record the right input. For example, many devices have a front input and a rear input. I would practice on something unimportant first.
