I get the following errors when authoring my compilation:

[20:47:39] Encoding motion XMB menu page [1/25] [Motion title thumbnail].
[20:47:41] Error encoding main menu page #1!
[20:56:53] Final output may be corrupted!
[20:56:53] Trying to use TITLE-LIST menu as main menu...
[20:56:53] Encoding motion XMB menu page [1/25]: Setup page (audio/subtitle).

[20:56:55] Encoding motion XMB menu page [2/25] [Motion title thumbnail].
[20:56:57] Error encoding main menu page #2!
[20:57:14] Encoding motion XMB menu page [2/25]: Setup page (audio/subtitle).

[20:57:15] Encoding motion XMB menu page [3/25] [Motion title thumbnail].
[20:57:17] Error encoding main menu page #3!
[20:57:23] Encoding motion XMB menu page [3/25]: Setup page (audio/subtitle).

....and so on for all video clips.

On the Menu tab, I chose "motion" as default menu type. On the Author tab, I chose XMB Menu under Create Top Menu, per the guide I was following. Do I need to have a helper program installed for these options?

The root of my problem with that error was the source video itself. Using Cyberlink PowerDirector (PD12), I had produced MPEG-4 video segments from Contour helmet cam video with the "deblocking" option enabled in PD12. MultiAVCHD will encode the main movie for playback with static menus, but would always fail on the motion menu. Disabling the deblocking option and using Hardware Video Encoder (GPU) in PD12 Produce solved the issue.
