How much is a Bluray burner now? Has the cost come down? I have a bluray player, but I want a bluray BURNER in order to burn my home HD movies from my Panasonic HD camcorder onto.
Please give me model types and prices if known.

Last Black Friday I picked up an LG BH10LS30 for ~$80 at Frys. It has worked well even with the cheaper BD media.

This LG BH10LS30 looks like an INTERNAL bluray burner. I have only laptops to work with, not desktops. Would this burner work with my laptop? What connection would I need?

I'm assuming your laptop has enough processing power to deal with Blu-rays. USB is marginal for transfers to a BD burner. You need USB 2.0 at least, and then it may be slow.

But here's a Samsung external from NewEgg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151251

It's about $125US with free shipping.

Your computer profile shows a 1.4 GHz Celeron. Forget Blu-Ray.

Actually, I have a new computer that has an i5 2430M processor which plays HD video well. I need to update my profile. Now my new laptop has a USB 3.0 slot as well. Will that make it faster?

Usb 3.0 will only be as fast as the usb interface,if the external blu-ray burner has a usb 2.0 then thats the speed you will get.

USB 2 can probably handle a 4x BD or 12x DVDR burn but is always more problematic than an internal drive. Read reviews carefully. BD coasters are expensive.

How slowly will it take using the usb 2.0 external blu ray burner, to make a 25gb HD home movie on a blu ray disc?

I would say about 25 minutes at 4x if it there is no issues. To verify that would take another 20 minutes or longer.

I can deal with 45-60min. to burn a Blu-ray. It already takes me 1 hr. to copy 1hr of video from mini dv to dvd anyway.
Just out of curiosity, how long would an INTERNAL Bluray (from a desktop) which I think uses esata, take to burn 25gb of blu ray HD video?

Somebody up above said that using my usb for an external blu ray burn is marginal and could be slow. But you (aedipuss) say that an internal blu ray burner is no faster than an external usb blu ray burner?

    Spend +/- $100 for a Pioneer Blu-ray drive.

Hard drives affected by Thailand floods.
But not optical drives, from what I've seen -- not affected that I've read about.

What model Pioneer blu-ray drive? I need a blu-ray burner (writer), either standalone or connected to my usb port on my computer. I do have another computer with an esata port, can I use this?
