  1. Hi all,

Well I ummed and erred over where to post this - this board seemed as the best bet but will happily remove/repost if I get everyone's backs up immediately!

I just (literally 1 hour ago) transferred an mp4 from my Samsung Galaxy S2 to my PC HD - for some reason best known to me instead of copying it I cut and paste it and something clearly happened during transfer as it will not now open from the HD (VLC or WMP). Is this technically destructive editing, lol?!

It's a 45 minute HD vid that weighs in at 3gb. I did start browsing the web whilst it was still moving the file and this is the only thing I can think of that upset it in some way.

Cue frantic googling and not a lot coming up - I've been through the tools section on here - tried YAMB (not sure why exactly) but it wouldn't add the file. I have read that HD Video Repair has high success rate and that V1.5 was freeware (as opposed to latest version $40 for 5 fixes) - of course I can't track V1.5 down anywhere.

It's the age old story - whilst I want to get the vid back I really don't want to throw any cash (well lets say $10 tops) at getting it back.

Are there any suggestions of programs that may be able to help or if anyone has a link to HD Video Repair 1.5 . . . . .

Any help, guidance or amusing stories to cheer me up appreciated!

if you copy it back to the s2 does it play? what does mediainfo say about the file? windows doesn't move files and write them with errors without reporting it. was it a usb transfer or networK?

I didn't get any error Windows message come up during/post transfer - would there be a log?

Finally, it was a usb transfer using the supplied phone cable (KIES air would've taken forever!).

windows would have stopped the transfer if it ran into any errors.

try a couple 3gp converters like https://www.videohelp.com/tools/Free-3GP-Video-Converter and see if anything can open it.

if you are good with a hex editor you could try the header swap trick. make sure you have a back up copy of the file before you do. compare the header of the bad file to the header of a good one and make the changes to the bad header to match the good one.
