Is there a way to control a TV set top box over a LAN?

Hello. I have cable and a set top box(some plain old Motorola box).

Is there some way that this STB can be controlled over my home LAN?

I want to be able to use my home network to change TV channels.

I am wondering if Microsoft Media Center or Roomie can do something like this.

Does anybody know? I am open to any and all suggestions.
