I have a Philips DVDR3600 - I used the region free hack, hitting setup and the the four digit code and set it to region 0.
Still, I can't switch it from PAL to NTSC. I have it hooked to an HDMI port, but that is not where it will be permanently.
As you can see the option is grayed out in the options.
    Am I screwed?

Wouldn't PAL and NTSC be under TV System?

I posted the wrong picture. BUT, I fixed the problem. It turns out there is a firmware update and there are different versions for EU and North America.
Ince I used the attached file and followed the instructions - I was able to change between PAL, NTSC and auto.

Of course... now I get an error code - E1 - but I can still record and playback DVDs.

Firmware updates on Philips players are risky because many have been reported to break hacks. Also, I'm not seeing the point in setting Progressive Scan to "On" if you're sending out 1080i to the TV.

That's just the setting it was on by default. I am going to send the output an a regular CRT TV. Should I have the progressive set to on or OFF?
