What's your favorite Planet of the Apes movie?

I liked the original movie, and saw the rest as well, but did not find them to be as enjoyable. I would not bother to see any of the original series again today, and I don't plan to watch the new series,

Although all the movies after the first one all have their good and bad points, the first one with Charlton Heston is by far the best.
But then i always have been a fan of CH.

I have not seen the newest POTA yet but i am not really expecting a lot.

I will see that one when the BR is avail.

The first one was okay since it was the first and was different.
After that since I knew what to expect, it was all downhill for me.
I've seen snippets of some of them when they were on TV but I wouldn't think of even renting one of them.

Oh, by the way... you forgot to include the Xrated version. I haven't seen that either, but it must be better than most of the others that were included.

Though the 2nd one really creeped me out as a kid. As a childish adult I now find it interesting, but a little dull.

"Escape" is a sentimental favorite- the first one my parents took me to see in a theater. Still think it has the best Kim Hunter and Roddy McD performances in the series, and the double-reverse-time-travel plot has been imitated many times since. Any movie featuring Hans Gudegast aka Eric Braeden as the villain is always worth a look: he's amazingly evil.

The first "Apes" is interesting but a little dull from todays perspective, and Charlton is polarizing: you either love him in this or he grates on your nerves (agreed Linda Harrison is a huge plus). "Beneath" is hilariously bad (but fun), "Escape" is tricky to follow and overly emotional but very engaging, and the final films setting up the ape takeover feature Roddy at his best: he works that clumsy makeup into more sly expressions than you would believe possible. The reboot was Tim Burton at his worst: awful. The new one looks intriguing, its on my list to see.

I have never seen one in its entirety. At most a two minute clip on some show about movies. Thats about it.

I guess its just something I've never had an interest in checking out.

I think you can rate the original 5-movie series in descending order - Planet/Beneath/Escape/Conflict/Battle. They are all good, but it peaks with Planet, the very first. The Tim Burton one doesn't even rate a mention. That last one was "ok".

(EDIT: Of course, that most recent one has nothing to do with the original classic five. It's its own entity.)

We did a POTA mini-film-festival once. The distributor sent us 16 MM Scope prints and we didn't have a Cinemascope lens for the 16. Showed them anyway and skinny tall apes were a hit...
