  1. I have a DVD player that played DIVX files, and although ALL of the files play fine on computers through various media players, when I burn them to a DVD and play the files on the DVD player some of the files have out of synch audio. The file itself hasn't been altered in any way, so why would the audio all of a sudden be out of sync? Is there any way for me to identify files that will have this problem prior to burning them to a DVD?

Just a note , again, I am just doing straight copies to a disc, not converting the avi's to DVD format.

I'll bet the audio streams of your Divx movies are VBR (variable bitrate) instead of CBR (constant bitrate).

  3. And to detect and correct this prior to burning to a disc I would do what?

Detect with GSpot, which will display audio info in the lower left corner.

Correct with VirtualDub + Lame MP3 encoder. (Video mode should be in Direct Stream Copy and Audio in Full Processing Mode, while selecting Compression > Lame MP3 and setting to the desired CBR bitrate.) Save the new .avi, which leaves the video unaltered and the audio stream in CBR.

    Anything else?
