I have 2 MP4 files that have AAC audio. Problem is my WDTV LP can handle it, but my receiver does not

I'm not sure about WD Live. I have 1st gen WD player for USB. I remuxed an .mkv as .mp4 leaving the audio as AC3 and it complained that it had unsupported audio track. I used AviDemux to Copy the video and only convert audio to AAC and it worked as long as I selected 128 stereo in audio options.
You might try going the other way. Use AviDemux to output .mkv with Copy for Video and encode Audio to AC3. It's worth a try. Typically one hour videos only take about 12 minutes when I go from .mkv to .mp4.

Thanks for the reply.
I did some digging around and found that it may not be my receiver at all.
Seems the latest FW is really bad and one thing it has done is mess with audio in a big way.
Many are complaining that AAC was fine before the latest update so I'm going to try and do a rollback and see what happens.
I do not know if I have any other video files with AAC that I played in the past without issue.

EDIT:
Ok I just looked through my WDTV LP and I found several files that have AAC audio that I have watched before and watched several times. So I know for a fact that they played on this unit.
Looks like the latest FW jacked things up.
Sorry to have found this to be a WDTV FW issue. Still nice to know I can change audio though if need be.Last edited by NotSoEasy; 26th Aug 2011 at 03:54.

FW generally makes me paranoid. Anything that is flash updatable should have an "undo" to put back the original undeletable code(and the undo itself should be undeletable.) If you get paperweight then you can't even update anymore, or is that a misimpression?
I updated to the last FW release for gen1 since I was pretty much forced into it. The addition of idx/sub support was worth the risk.http://milesaheadsoftware.org/
