Capturing HDMI output

Can somebody please find a way to capture an HDMI tv signal output?

I know that Blackmagic and maybe other companies have capturing cards or devices that have HDMI input and output however they state you may not be able to capture HDMI copy protected video. Does this apply to HDTV satellite dish or cable (such as Dishnetwork/DirectTV-US OR TIMEWARNER? or just Blue-Ray discs? I think the whole purpose of HDCP compliant devises is to prevent copying HDMI output signals but what about devices that do not specify HDCP compliance, do they ignore the copyrighted signal in the HDMI? Can software bypass HDMI copyrighted protection? Can somebody write an article and maybe ways others have used capturing devices that have HDMI inputs? Please

Yes all of them. HDCP implementation is part of their contract with program suppliers.

To be HDMI certified, HDCP needs to be implemented.

So? Blackmagic HDMI input cannot capture HDTV from a cablebox HDMI output is what you are saying. The only way is to tap into a HDTV analog out ports an reconvert to HDMI with loss in quality. The only use of HDMI input gadgets is to couple it with high end digital cameras for pro or semi-pro video production. Anybody else that can add to this thread in regards to capture HDMI video please post your comments.

Search web for HD Fury III. It takes in HDMI and puts out component video. There are probably similar devices available. It solves the Time Warner problem, and will work with an Intensity Pro, or Canopus Pegasus cards, probably others as well. The settings between the set top box and the Intensity have to be identical or the Intensity won't sync the video. Use the supplied capture program that comes with the Intensity. If you want to monitor audio during capture or watch the program on your PC, then you need to feed the audio from the set top box into the audio inputs on your PC mobo sound chip or to you audio card if you have one. (high level such as aux inputs).

If your cable box has component out, you can use the component in on the BMIP. No weird adapters/convertors required. Record whatever you'd like.

Also the Hauppauge HD PVR and the the Avermedia HD PVR.

But many devices wont output both HDMI (to a TV) and component (to the capture device) at the same time. And many devices don't even have component outputs or they are disabled for some programming.

The BMIP will not record component video if the signal includes the "do not copy" flag -- CGMS-A. The Hauppuage HD PVR will ignore that flag.

I capture HDCP-protected HDMI using the AverMedia HD DVR. How to do so with this card has been discussed on this forum and others previously. It is limited to stereo audio.
