I was attempting a conversion of a DVD to an avi file using Freemake the other night and for some reason the files always came out slightly pillarboxed. I ended up just doing a straight clone of the DVD but I was wondering if anyone had an idea why I was having the issue with pillarboxing?

Autogk, fairuse wizard and staxrip are much better for good dvd to avi conversion.

Hopefully they'll add a better detection and cropping method soon ... I just set it to 720x576 (pal) and encode using 5000kbps xvid ... then correct and filter in vdub for final outcome
also a bug with tv recordings being converted ... vbr detected after initial conversion but simple to fix in vdub once again.
