    you could install thunderbird and set it up to work with hotmail. guides online.

    Same way Hotmail works in Thunderbird, same way Hotmail works in Outlook / Outlook Express. I use it with POP3 in Outlook Express.
    Only difference: when you start adding the account in Outlook, donīt put "hotmail.com" as a complete word. Write "hotmai.com" or something like that. Then, after finishing setup. change that back to hotmail.com. During setup hotmail.com as a whole word (account) get blocked.
    Rest is the same (pop3.live.com / SSL / port 995 etc) Works like a a charm.
