I want to convert the audio of a few .mkvs from AC3 to AAC.
But just the audio. I want to keep the video exactly as it is.
Are there any programs I can do this with?

The reason is Im going to convert the audio, then mux the mkvs into m2ts with tzmuxer so i can play them on my xbox. I understand that the xbox can play m2ts as long as the audio is mkv.

did you try avidemux? set video to copy audio to aac and format to mkv. or try going straight to mpeg-ts.

  3. In addition to aedipuss

    1) Demux mkv in to video and audio.
    2) Encode AC-3 to AAC by using NeroAACEnc - CLI or any other audio converter like Pazera.
    3) Remux video + audio either into mkv, mp4 or any other container.

Use tsMuxer to demux the audio/video streams from the mkv, open the AC3 with MeGui and encode it to AAC.
Then use tsMuxer again and re-mux the video and the AAC audio in to m2ts .

    I guess im slow writer

  6. As you wasted 3 persons (aedipuss. myself and pirej) time, you owe $100/each person for further assistance.

    Any way....
The route is AAC --> WAV (PCM) --> AC-3
    1) Use pazera audio converter for AAC to WAV and then after use DAudioK.
    2) Use SSRC + SOX + QuEnc with your own avisynth script (if you know).
    3) Use pazera audio converter + SOX + BeSweet or EncWAV to AC3.
    4) if you are making DVD, probably any professional software like CovertXtoDVD gonna take care of AAC -to-> AC3. You have to do nothing! So spend some bucks wisely.

PS: hope we all three aedipuss. myself and pirej will receive $100 in mail!! coz you get one solution plus free bonus. now you know both AC-3 --to--> AAC and AAC --to--> AC-3, as well.

I was about to post to this then saw that the OP corrected themselves.
Simply use eac3to to convert audio, then mux with tsmuxer.
    1. Load mkv into eac3to, convert audio.
    2. Load MKV into tsmuxer un-check audio track, add new audio track and mux the files.
