I'm looking to put banana plugs on my speaker wire for my home theater setup. I have had a few speaker shorts recently that I want to stop (the receiver shuts itself off).

My question is: What banana plugs are good? I've seen them at $20 for 2, which is clearly outrageous, and as low as $5 for 50. I want good quality without breaking the bank. Is there really any difference between them all? Anything in partular I should look for/watch out for?

    thanks guys

  2. For speaker wire inexpensive plugs are fine. As long as they are decently constructed.

  3. I have these from Monoprice http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10401&cs_id=1040115&p_id=...seq=1&format=2 on speakers for two systems and have never had an issue. Good quality and cheap.

In addition to Monoprice, there's some at http://www.bluejeanscable.com/store/speaker/index.htm (scroll down a bit) and http://www.radioshack.com/family/index.jsp?categoryId=2032280&allCount=254&fbc=1&f=PAD...23038%3B+jacks, etc...

I've used the $8 a pair Radio Shack ones (kind of expensive, I'd have tried their $5/pair NXG ones if they had) and Bluejeans cable welded speaker wire with locking bananas. Also have some Bluejeans non-locking ones but haven't used them yet. I would recommend any of them...

Edit: Those NXG ones look like they're open, still a possibility of a short if strands stick out the holes...
