I've tried just about all of the normal programs to convert some DVDs that I have to MKV. What I would like to do is change the audio but leave the mpeg2 video intact. Xmedia Recode and just about every other program I've tried wants to recode the video to mpg4, h264 etc or change the mpeg 2 to another bitrate.

These conversion programs are easy to use but by forcing a mpeg2 bitrate change they make a 2 minute process(just changing the audio) a big time consuming procedure.

Are there any of these simple programs that will convert a DVD to MKV with a converted audio and an untouched video.

avidemux, open first main vob, select yes to index and auto append, under video choose copy, under audio choose your audio codec, save as a mkv. (Under Audio->Main track can you choose the audio track from the dvd).

edit: I test played the mkv with VLC and it works perfect. DVD source: Fletch.
