    Hi,

I just have changed my OS from XP 32 bits to win 7 64 bits, and i'm a bit lost with editing videos in Virtualdub.

    I have chosen :
    - the 32 bit version of Virtualdub with the following plugins :
    • DirectShow
    • MPEG-2
    • WMV
    • FLV
    • QuickTime
    • FLIC
    • AC3
    - the 32 bits mega version of K-lite codec pack.
    - avisynth 2.6 32 bits

    In ffdshow vfw configuration ,I've set the wmv1/7 , 2/8 , 3/9 ,vc-1 to wmv9 instead of disabled.

With this, I can edit :

-the WMV video, I have to select the file first then select the Windows media files from the the dropdown menu
-the mpeg-ts (mpeg2 ?) videos, I first have to write an avs script like this : DirectShowSource("H:\Total Média\****.mpg") and then drag and drop it in Vdub

The third type of videos I need to edit is the flv files. I am really confused between the settings of vfw ffdshow codecs and Win7DSFilterTweaker. I want to change a minimum of parameters to keep the easy way to open my wmv and mpg videos

Here is the mediainfo report :

Maybe just install FLV Splitter to begin with.

  4. Use the "Files of type" pulldown in VirtualDub's Open Vide File dialog to select "DirectShow input driver". You can also try the "Flash Video files (*.flv)" drier but in my experience it doesn't work with a lot of FLV files.

    thanks jagabo,

Flv splitter is included in K-lite pack.

Using the "Files of type" pulldown in VirtualDub's Open Vide File dialog to select "DirectShow input driver" will only show avs files. Is that right ?
If yes, you mean that i have to write a script like this : DirectShowSource("H:\Mes documents\****.flv")
    If yes, it doesn't work.

I say again that i didn't almost change anything in the settings of vfw ffdshow.

  6. VFW system is not used unless video is AVI wrapped (you have an FLV, not AVI)

You need FLV splitter and h.264/avc enabled in the ffdshow directshow configuration (not VFW), in order for directshow driver, or .avs using directshowsource() to work

If neither work, try ffms2 in avisynth
    http://code.google.com/p/ffmpegsource/

    FFMpegSource2("video.flv", atrack=-1)

    Thanks poisondeathray,

I have enabled h.264/avc in ffdshow.

I'm not sure how to interpret your sentence concerning flv splitter:
    - do have i to enable it in ffdshow directshow configuration ? i.e wich exact line in codec list should i enable ?
    - or do i simply need flv splitter (to install) (already done)

Anyway i have this bad result :
"something appears to be stuck while trying to stop ((thread deadlock). abort & exit pgm ?"
I was trying to open the vid, not to stop it

Then, I have tried with ffms2 in avisynth and it works well.

Is there a way to save all this ffdshow settings ? Just in case.

    Hi,

    thanks Darrells for the settings,

Yesterday, with your advices, I was confident in copping with most of videos format i'm usually dealing with.
However, something's going wrong with my wmv videos.

With this, I can edit :

-the WMV video, I have to select the file first then select the Windows media files from the the dropdown menu
In fact, I just checked editing this video in Vdub, by moving the button along the timeline; this was perfectly working. But I didn't try to simply play the video in Virtualdub. Now, I get this message : No audio decompressor could be found to decompress the audio.
I have no problem to play this video with MPCHC.

As far as the .flv files go, I have had pretty good success getting that type of file to open in VDub by first opening the .flv in Avidemux and copying the video and audio into an mp4 container. Then in VDub make sure the Quicktime plugin is present, then edit the Quicktime.ini file so that mode=2.

Qudos to the person who presented that mode setting for the Quicktime plugin in another post a while back. It also allows Zi8 files to open directly in VDub.

  12. Avoid Quicktime at all costs. It is totally screwed up.

I assume you are refering to Apples Quicktime app., in which case I totally agree. Just for clarity, I'm refering to the Virtualdub Quicktime/MPEG-4 plugin, available here:

Yes I'm referring to Apple's Quicktime package (codecs and player) or Quicktime alternative (which is just parts of Apple's package, repackaged).

Thanks you for all your answers,

I installed DivX_WMA_Audio and it works perfectly in Vdub.
However MPCHC cannot render properly some of the pins (missings codecs). VLC plays this vid with a very poor quality of sound.

I will try to avoid avidemux, if possible to do all i need in the same program (Vdub). Thx

EDIT : YEEEEES, Finaly, i tried a second time to compress the audio with AC3-ACM instead of MPEG-layer 3 and MPCHC managed to play with success the video.
