    Hi all:

I'm wondering if there's a tool similar to mkv2vob for converting video files to an IOS-ready state, but not re-encoding video when unnecessary. For instance, let's say I've got an mkv with a 720p, H264 video stream and AC3 or DTS audio. Under the requirements for IOS, the video stream should work just fine, you just need to convert the audio to AAC and pack it in an MP4 container. If the file happens to have a video stream that's unplayable in IOS the utility should convert it.

Is there a tool out there that does this?

I've tried using many of the CLI tools (mkvextract, eac3to, neroaac) to accomplish this but something gets screwy in the process - losing part of the audio or loosing sync. I know enough to get these tools working but nowhere near what I'd need to create a full-fledged solution like mkv2vob.

If there's nothing like this out right now, where can I post this idea for some enterprising young mind to realize? I don't care about credit, just thinking of a better way to prepare portable media.
