    Can someone explain to me what are the differences between the Level settings the and Profile (main, baseline, high) settings? Thanks.

    It's useful if you have portable device that just support up to specific profile and level number. Computer software players supports all profiles/levels but a higher profile/level may require a faster computer.

    Do these settings affect quality? I mainly use XMedia to encode vid to watch on my HTPC (Zotac Zbox ID34). Should separate settings be used to encode DVD or BR, etc?

    Scroll Down about 3/4 th of the way and look for a table: titled: Common MPEG-2 Profile/Level combinations
    They do, as you can see from the table. DVD is MP@ML, etc.
