  1. Hi,
I rip my CD's with EAC and LAME (additional commandline: -V0 -q0 -b128) to WAV and MP3, but I recognized that LAME sometimes has 32 kbps in its command line window and sometimes there are only 128 kbps and above. Do I have to worry that all the files I created aren't the "same kind".
In foobar2000 some Mp3 files (only some) it's displyed at the beginning and at the end that the bitrate is under 128 kbps, but only when the file is silent. Strange.
If you look at my LAME settings you'll see that I want Mp3-files with highest quality and minimum 128 kbps.
    My Tools versions:
Exact Audio Copy 1.0 beta 1
    LAME: lame.exe 3.98.4
    Mp3tag v2.48d
    foobar2000 1.1.7 beta 2

What do you think? Do I have to worry?

    Thanks

    Klaus

    Hi
The b option for LAME with VBR is used to force up the lower limit if your player won't play low bitrate files.
    Otherwise don't use it.
    -V 0 -q 0 is correct.

  4. Hi,
thanks for your answer. So if I use "-b128" then space is wasted. Did you mean that?
    In "switchs.html" is written:
"When used with variable bitrate encoding (VBR), -b specifies the minimum bitrate to be used. However, in order to avoid wasted space, the smallest frame size available will be used during silences."
Is this the only negative effect?

    Yes, that's right.

With VBR, LAME will decide what is the best bitrate to use 'on the fly'.
    (Explanation here:- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_the_fly)
    Between 32Kbps and 320Kbps.

-V 0 -q 0 gives best results without wasting space.

  6. Hi,
thanks for your reply. I want highest VBR quality ("-V0") and highest quality ("-q0") but I don't want Mp3-files that contains parts with bitrates under 128kbps. So for my wishes, the settings are OK. Right?

    Thanks
