I have noticed when using Avidemux that sometimes when I open a file and view it for editing it plays it back at the normal speed, sometimes it plays them slower, sometimes it plays them faster than normal speed.
I am talking about different files, not the same file. For any given file it will play it at the same speed every time, but I can't figure out what it's doing. The files that played back really slow, I edited and saved them and they seem to play normally in other programs. Is it due to the file size? I've never had one playback faster until I loaded a really large file consisting of multiple mpg appended together.

AviDemux isn't designed as a media player so it probably has problems keeping up with the frame rate at times. The videos that are playing faster (multiple MPG segments) may have different frame rates in different segments. AviDemux may not be accounting for that and using the same frame rate in all segments.
