I cannot use my camcorder with my new laptop computer as the firewire attachment that I used from the camera lead to the old computer does not fit the new computer.

The camcorder mordel is Canon MVX20i and the lead from that connected to the old computer via an Expresscard 34mm FireWire 1394a 2 ports.

My new laptop only has USB ports - no Firewire or PCMCIA slot.

When I have tried USB to USB, my laptop does not even see that there has been a device added.

My question is could I use a Firewire / USB adaptor in a USB socket on my laptop to plug my camera into the Firewire plug on the adaptor? Would I need additional software?

I know Pixela did a cable / adaptor for this a few years back but I cannot find one!

Any advice / solutions gratefully accepted.

The question comes up here on occasion: https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/333101-How-can-I-capture-video-with-no-firewire-port?

There is no easy solution. Best to get a tower computer and add a FireWire port. Even an older used PC with a PCI FW card would be a better solution than some sort of FW>USB adapter that most likely won't work with your camera.

That didn't work for camcorder DV transfer.
