    If I record sound from my computer into my audio editor, and I use Stereo Mix, there's no sound quality loss right? Stereo Mix simply takes a digital copy of sound that is destined for your speakers. Is that about right?

    Generally yes but you usually need to specify your recording format preferences for the timeline (e.g. CD quality 44.1 KHz, 16bit stereo PCM or better or worse). The recording quality you set may limit the quality recorded to the disk buffer. After editing, compression is usually applied (e.g. MP3 or AC3).

    No, that's an analog recording, if you ran a jumper from the headphone jack to the line in.
