Help! I am trying to embed subtitles (either srt or txt) into an avi file on my mac. The reason for this is to play these movies on the tv via a usb, so it is only one file. I have tried to use ffmpegX and the subs appear in the preview but don't on the final encode.
Is this the best (free) program for a mac?
    What am i doing wrong?
    Thanks

    Wow dude you are fast!
Since posting i have found that Submerge works wonderfully, however the output file has to be a mov file. My goal is to create a single avi. No program i have tried (video converter, handbrake, aiseesoft total media converter) will keep the subs in the converted avi file.
Any help? Will that program enable that?
    thanx in advance...

For hardcoding subtitles in ffmpegX AVI output, you need to use a mencoder preset (screenshot). This is mentioned on the How-to page for the Filters tab, in the section for 'Load subs'.
