Last week I purchased a AverMedia AverTV HD DVR to capture some footage from my cable box. I'm using the software that's provided on the website and I get a good quality mpeg2 file (720p60).
When I read the original file, there is no sync problem. I tried reading it with MPC, VLC, PS3, everything is fine.
What I'm trying to do is fit it to a Blu-Ray disc. First thing I did was try to remux it to m2ts with tsmuxer and the audio gets approximately 5sec off by the end of the file (~1h45m). At the beginning of the file, the audio is fine.
I then tried to demux it and I noticed that the audio file is 5sec longer than the video. I also changed the audio delay that tsmuxer detects automatically (159ms), but alas, same thing.
I tried searching/testing for a week, but now I'm out of ideas...

I have a similar if not the same card (AVerMedia AVerTV HD DVR MTVHDDVRR). When I capture video/audio (I have a very fast computer with a I7-2600k CPU), there is a lag on the audio. I have tried everything. This occurs even when I capture RAW AVI files. I use these files in Adobe Premiere Elements 9.0. I also have an external capture device and when I use Premiere Elements to capture directly using its Capture function, I do not have this issue. Unfortunately, Adobe cannot access this card. I am certain it is the card or their software. I have considered just selling the card to be honest and getting a better one although it would cost a lot more. Their software seems simple enough to use but there are not a lot of options during capture. For example, I cannot select an encoder for AVI. Tech support says it is RAW only. I will be interested in any responses you or I get that solves this but clearly it is not ok the way it is. I refuse to have to move the sound track slightly to align with the video and I am unsure if this would solve it. This should not be necessary. It doesn't seem to matter whether the input is component video or S-video or whether I use a camcorder or a VCR to capture the video or sound from. The results seem to be the same. That is, a time lag between the video and audio.

Yep same card. Try capturing with MPEG 30000kbit, I have no problem with the resulting file, other than it's 25GB. I recently tried to demux with projectx and remux with tsmuxer and the resulting m2ts file is in sync. But I can't seem to find a program to cut the commercials. And when I tried to remux to bluray folder structure, I get a message that says the codec is not supported for bluray.

I will try that approach. I found that if I process the RAW AVI file through the Prism Video Converter, I get an AVI file about 1/3 the size having been encoded with DV Encoder NTSC (Directshow). When I then use that file in Premire Elements and EDIT the file (crop, cut etc.) the voice seems to stay in sync. I have not fully explored all my options and capturing in MPEG-2 may work. However, I do see that there have been posts that Adobe Premiere Elements has issues editing MPEG files. For now I may just do this two-step process using an AVI RAW output and then reprocess with Prism. Looks like my real issue is Adobe's apparent inability to process a RAW AVI file correctly when edited. It can read and play it however. I have not yet taken the step to creating Blu-REay disks. MY next endeavor once I get a Blu-Ray burner and player. I am still doing DVD's in the meantime. Thanks for the input. I am still disapointed Avermedia does not give us a choice for an encoder on AVI. I am also not happy that Adobe Premiere Elements cannot "see" the video card so it can't capture directly to its timeline where I could bypass using Avermedia's software. So far, not possible.

@matomato13 - if you are trying to make a bluray disc try multiavchd. It has a bluray output mode. It should accept your original file without the need for remuxing to any other format.
I would normally recommend mpg2cut2 for cutting sequences out of a mpeg file. However I do not know if it will accept high def mpeg files. You may want to see if avidemux will work with it.
Also possibly virtualdub will work using avisynth. It should let you do a direct stream copy to avoid any reencoding but I can not say for certain it will do this for high def mpeg files or regular mpeg files without reencoding for 100% certain. But it is worth trying. All of the programs I have mentioned are freeware fyi and worth having in your arsenal if you don't already have them.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
I tried what you said but nothing gave something good.
I used Cuttermaran to cut the video and it resulted in a m2v and mp2 file which I remuxed in tsmuxer into a m2ts and got a good synced file. I'm going to try multiavchd to output to bluray. -
TMPGEnc gave me a good bluray structure which I created an iso from using imgburn. The disc reads fine on the computer but is not detected by my PS3...

Problem was the disc type which was DVD-ROM on the first one. Works fine now. Thanks everyone!
BTW, is there a way to disable the copy protection on the composite input? I'm trying to record from a VHS and I get this message everytime the VCR is adjusting the tracking.
