AVI: How To Add Specific Subtitles With SRT Subs?

OK since my previous post I found it's extremely easy to add SRT subs to an AVI file. Issue being the movie (AVI) is in English, there's just a few parts in French that need subtitles (SRT). However I don't need a movie hard coded with running subtitles at the bottom, I just need the subs to pop up during the French speaking parts. Opening the SRT file in notepad I see the beginning looks like:

You could delete everything except the parts you wanted to keep for the french speaking parts and usually the numbering does not matter as long as the timings are correct.

Just make a backup of the file and try it.

Try Subtitle Workshop it's free & easy to use.

It's easier to delete subs in Subtitle Workshop than a text editor, as it's just move to the sub and press the delete key, rather than selecting the several line of text you see in a text editor.

Also, if you've already deleted a bunch of subs using a text editor, just opening and resaving it in Subtitle Workshop will renumber the remainder correctly.

I've done it both ways, and it really is much easier in Subtitle Workshop.
It's also easy to screw up the file in a text editor unless you're very careful.

I always load it up in Subtitle Workshop to check "Information and Errors" after editing it anyway.

And numbering does not make a difference either as long as the timings are correct.

Maybe not necessary for all applications, but why not be correct.
