  1. Hope someone can give some help/suggestions on if it is possible to restore/salvage/recover video from a Sony DVD+RW 1.4GB disc (small disc) used in my new Sony Handycam DCR-DVD 650. After recording video, the disc was "reformatted". According to camera user manual, when the disc is "reformatted", the video is "lost/deleted". Crazy idea for the casual user. Anyway, I can not find or view the video as it shows up blank on the camera when try to play back. Does anyone know if it is fact that the video was "deleted/removed" from the DVD Disc??? Can the video be reoovered??? Would appreciate any help with this one. My hope is that the video is still on the disc and can be recovered, but the question is how.

This program purports to be able to do that:

    diskinternals cd and dvd recovery

No idea if it works though. People usually ask how to recover files from discs where the dyes have faded. No possibility of that!

If nobody has used the camera and made a new recording over that disc.....then yes it can be recovered.

  4. Old Fart: Thanks for your reply - I will most certainly look into this program. No, I have not taped over the disc.

Hech: Do you have a suggestion on "how" this might be done???

Appreciate both of your comments. If I can recover this video, it will make the wife happy (and me too). As most know, if momma ain't happy, no one else is happy either.

CDRoller and ISOBuster are probably your best bet....but neither are free.

    That's not a term -- "faded".
I'd be curious to know what you're actually referring to here.

  7. Did you have any luck restoring your deleted/lost DVD video from the Sony Handycam? I have the same problem with a video that will not play. It shows formatting starts when I put the DVD-RW in. This video means so much to us and my child cried once it would not play the singing performance, it was a one time show. I tried it all and read operation guide, no luck. I e-mailed Sony, no response yet. Please, can you help me and let me know if and how you retrieved the video. Thank you so much for your help.
