Do I need to extract sound first to create SVCD

Man, I am having some problems.

Do I need to extract the sound from a Divx file with Virtualdub before creating a SVCD with TMPG? I'm always getting the sound out of sync. I've tried playing the output file in MediaPlayer, DVDPlayer, etc. It's always out of sync. For the love of God, why?

I checked to see what the original bitrate for the avi. file is and input this value into TMPG. I calculate the what the video bitrate should be and set the fps to whatever the original file says it was. I simply just do a properties check on the original avi. file within explorer by right clicking. It tells me everything on the advanced tab about the original file. What's up with us? Am I not supposed to input the exact fps or audio bitrate as the original file is? I've read a lot of posts, but everyone seems to say it's an Elecard Mpeg2 player problem. That's why I installed DVDPlayer and tried using it to play the file. Still out of sync though. And, I also got rid of Divxpro 5, and reinstalled v.4. Some peeps were saying it could also cause problems with this. Can someone give me hand please?

Never mind, I figured it out myself. That darn Virtualdub was changing the audio rate when I was splitting the avi files. Now, I just simply don't use the thing "Virtualdub". I find it best to just encode the whole original avi file with TMPG and then use TMPG to split the mpg file if need be.

Don't split the file into two parts with VirtualDub, just extract the audio to WAV. In TMPGEnc you will find the "source range" filter under the Advanced tab. You can set start and end points with this. Set start and end for first half and encode...set start and end point for second half and encode. Done. This way you can still have the speed advantage that comes from extracting the audio first, and you won't have the sync problems that can come from splitting with VirtualDub.
