I am trying to convert videos to play to my Sony KDL-32EX308 but can't seem to get it to work. Sony's website states that the TV only plays AVCHD and MPEG2 via network or USB flash drive but gives no specs on container or other settings. I'm converting to MPEG2 but the files still won't play. Is there specific encoding options I need to use? I am using ffmpeg via CLI (openSUSE); I have also tried avidemux. I do have a Windows 7 machine in the house and XP dual booted on my laptop if I have to resort to it.
I'm hoping someone knows what I'm doing wrong or not doing at all.
    Thanks for any help!

    Well, that sucks!

Sony doesn't usually play mainstream formats, only ones coming from a Sony product.

Yeah, should have done a little more research on format support. crap sony &%$*#&@!
I suppose next I'll have to buy a Vaio laptop and a Sony licensed surge protector. Maybe even a sony wall socket and sony WiFi router too!

  4. Maybe it doesn't like program streams? Try remuxing into a transport stream? Maybe it doesn't like AC3 audio in a program stream?

I think ".M2TS" is the Sony transport stream.

Most Sony manuals detail codec and container support specs.

AVCHD format is specific on codec (MPeg2, h.264, VC-1), max bit rate and file structure.

Alternate is an external media player.

Details? That's where the devil is.

Sony is just like Apple, they will tell you they play ".MP4" and that's about it. And they put a bunch of stickers and logos making you think it's all good and the kitchen sink too.

Sometimes they just make up stuff. Like "Exclusive Sony EIOS technology" or "DLNA", and then glue a shiny sticker extrolling the virtues of nothing special.

Sony can make a bag of poop look and smell like a flower with their "Sony Style" makeover.

    Whew!

My Sony kdl - 46EX700 actually plays MT2S, DIVX and MPEG2 files through its USB port without any trouble.

Perhaps you wish to upload a 10 seconds sample to MEDIAFIRE.COM so that I download it and try it on my tv set.
