joining avi files with diff frame rate-error in vd

I am just trying to join several avi files then converting them to dvd as a single file. When I open the avi files in vd i get a error...

"could not locate compressor for xvid
direct show codecs such as these are not suitable"

1. Is there an easier way to join these besides changing the sample rates for each file to play as a single dvd?
2. if not how to i get around this error?

Did you install the Xvid codec? If you did, you might need to change the fourcc from xvid to XVID. You can use AVI Fourcc Codec Changer. After that you may get a message about the frame rates not being the same. You can use AviFrate to change both file to have exactly the same Scale and Rate values.

Or you could try using AviDemux which is more forgiving of such things.
