  1. I have taped some videos from DVB, saved for timeshifting purposes, but would like to edit out the digital on-screen graphic.
    These are taped in MPEG format (MPEG-2) from DVB-T, and they all use FFDShow codecs.

    What programs would you suggest I use for this? (freeware ones only)

    Attached are examples of this:

    but this is how I would like to re-edit them (attached):

    The second image has a far more transparent logo, which is the effect I'm aiming for.

    I don't really want to re-record episodes for the sake of a digital on-screen graphic, so all help would be appreciated.

    Those graphics are composited into the video before output to your VCR. You can't separate them after recording.

    I see. It was that I'd heard of "logo removers" for videos, but now I understand it better.

    Those work better for transparent bugs. In your case large black blocks replaced the background video.
