Was messing with a friend's laptop today thats having issues, and don't know what to do. Its a Windows Vista comp, and it connects wirelessly to our router, problem is it won't let him do anything afterwards.
It shows that he is connected, but he can't use the web for anything. This sounds like a familiar problem i've run into in the past that could be solved with a simple setting change, but i don't know what to do at the moment.
Any advice?

Try unplugging the router for 30 seconds. When he is connected to your router see if you can ping any websites.

Make and model should be specified ... otherwise you'll just be grabbing at straws.
1: Disable any secondary firewall products on the laptop ... some updates can cause these issues.
2: Disable IPv6 for the wireless network device
3: Check router has the laptop listed in wlan clients ... if not then the router needs a good hard reboot ... reboot it 3 times should do.
4: Create a new user account with admin privileges ... log off the current account and log into new account.
If the new account can browse the internet then the original account may have some form of profile corruption ... backup files and delete that account ... recreate it and replace backup files.
Q: Has service packs been installed for vista ?
