has anyone got a way of telling me how to player region 1 discs on this machine?

I did find the following instructions to decode the philips BDP 2700/05, but it did not work for me. All HELP gratefully accepted and appreciated


1 open the tray
2 go to setup
3 use the arrow to go down to preference page
4 enter "138931"
5 then region 0 is on the screen
6 press ok

and you can use all region

Don't throw away your existing region-free DVD player....you'll need it.

Ain't nobody (else) jumping on board here to help you because we get at least two inquiries like these each day and it gets boring repeating the same thing over and over and over again. Region Free nowadays throws a wrench into the works...Region Free on a Blu Ray player throws the entire toolbox into the works. Plain and simple.

Your point is well made, given the price of a region free player (circa €50) it will be simpler to just go and buy that one.

I have another samsung DVD player (three years old) and I will post the region number on this blog tonight. If you recognise it and can help me "liberate" it for all regions, I would be very grateful

Manufacturers make changes during production to hardware and/or firmware that can break hacks that worked in the past. To further complicate matters, the hack you found may indeed work, but perhaps it only works on this model as sold in another part of the world such as Australia. This is due to hardware and/or firmware differences too.

The reality is that Hollywood has put a lot of pressure on the major manufacturers to stop producing players that can be made region free. The North American marketplace has been more than happy to comply giving us a situation where it's becoming increasingly difficult to find any players that can be made region free here. Even Philips, who just a few years had maybe 1 or 2 players in the entire world that could not be made region free by entering a code, has complied. Some Philips players can still be made region free, but many cannot. Note that at this time it is just about impossible to unlock any Sony or Samsung player of any type sold anywhere in the world. A very few have been reported to have unlock codes for DVD region free play, but the majority do not have such codes.

BluRay licensing forbids the manufacturers from producing players that can be made region free for DVD or BluRay playback. Yes, even region free for DVD only is forbidden. This has created a situation where only a very few BluRay players can be made region free for both DVD and BluRay playback and they have to have hardware modifications to do it. A handful of BluRay players sold outside of North America have been reported to be able to be made region free for DVD only playback by entering an unlock code, but such players do violate the BluRay licensing agreement and their production could stop at any time due to pressure from the licensing group and even Hollywood. I don't remember any of the models that can be made region free just for DVD playback by entering a code, but I seem to recall that they were sold in the Australasia region. I'm not sure if any are sold in Europe. The Oppo and Momitsu (also sold as Hitecker and a few other brands) BluRay players can be made region free for BluRay and DVD playback if they have a hardware modification applied to them. If you need a region free for everything player you might look into those. Oppo may be expensive to get in Europe though as it is produced only for the North American marketplace.

Hi,

I bought one of these players and it arrived yesterday. Tried the hack and it worked first time. Have since played Region 1, 2 and 3 discs. Great PQ on DVD, haven't tried a Blu-ray disc yet but I am well happy with the player.

This Worked for my
BDP 2700/12 made in poland bought in Germany

1. Make sure there is no disc in the tray when you switch on.
2. Press "home" key on remote control.
3. Enter number "1389310".
4. Switch off. Wait a few seconds and then switch on...now region free.

Hi it worked for me too
BDP2700/79 bought in New Zealand

1. Make sure there is no disc in the tray when you switch on.
2. Press "home" key on remote control.
3. Enter number "1389310" on the remote control. Wait 10 seconds
4. Switch off using Power Button on front display. Wait 10 seconds
5. Switch on using Power Button on front display. Will boot as normal but will be region free. (Try a DVD and see)

Also plays MKV files with (h264/AC3), but doen't like subtitles in the MKV container, us as a separate Srt file with the same name as the MKV file, (i.e Video1.Mkv, Video1.Srt)

I tested with DVD only. I cannot confirm that this works with Blu Ray.

After the hack mentioned my DVD player on my Philips BDP2700 is region free.
The blue ray function still does not accept a foregin blue ray DVD. My blue ray driver probably accepts region B blue ray DVDs (not tried) but with a region A blue ray disc the unit reports a "wrong region" message.
How can the blue ray driver be made region free?

It can't. Region free for DVD and BluRay are different. To be region free for BluRay requires special hardware. I only know of 3 models (Momitsu/Hitecker, Oppo, Insignia) for which region free BluRay playback has been reported.

Just check the hundreds of pages if the Blu-ray film is available on a multi-region Blu-ray disc.
I buy US Blu-rays all the time and they work on my Region B player fine because they are Region A/B or Region All.
Blu-ray.com for example...

The OPPO 93 is available in north america and in Europe and can esealy be modified to all zone DVD and Bluray just by plugin a small harware module which can be esealy removed if you need waranty repairs

Hi,

It is not about the region, But about the Arabic subtitle,

the DVD can not read read Arabic subtitle, except if it is IDX, and when it is IDX (Vobsub format)

but again when it read this Arabic sub, the it can not show the real encoded color (in my example is yellow with black border), but it give cyan with yellow, is this dvd can not show the black color..., it is mean the DVD change the true color of the border..
the dvd can normally read English srt
